Remote: An Abstract Response to Rural Flight

  • Gallery St. Germain 912 West St. Germain Street Saint CLoud, Minnesota 56301 United States (map)

New Paintings by regional artist, Heidi Jeub, will be on exhibit at the Gallery St. Germain, beginning January 8, 2020. Remote: An Abstract Response to Rural Flight is a series of paintings that addresses the complexities of rural life, and a response to the oversimplification of a not-so-simple story. Responding to "rural flight," an issue that faces small-town America, where young people and families leave their communities for larger cities, higher-paying jobs, and educational opportunities, Jeub has been researching concepts around rural issues, integrating the ideas of isolation and disparities, hope and innovation, into her work. One of the main issues she addresses is the dual-identity of rural communities: on one end, the rural is seen as idyllic, on the other end, a place of economic hardship and cultural blight. Deciding to go abstract when approaching this subject is both a way to remove stereotypical content from rural artwork, but to also consider systematic constructs when creating the compositions. The paintings will be on exhibit from January 8 - February 22, 2020. An Artist Reception will be held on January 9, 5:30 -7:30. An Artist Talk will be held on February 21, 2 pm. The Gallery St. Germain is located at 912 West St. Germain Street, St. Cloud, Minnesota
