Exhibition: Heidi Jeub / Richard Mittelstadt

  • Hallberg Center for the Arts / Wyoming Area Creative Arts (map)

Spatial Recognition brings together the dynamic abstract practices of Heidi Jeub and Richard Mittelstadt, two artists whose work examines the power of abstraction to shape perception, emotion, and connection.

Jeub’s paintings blend energetic mark-making with written language, using abstraction as a bridge into deeper conversations about community and the human experience. Her visual and textual layers invite viewers to reflect, question, and engage—offering multiple points of entry into topics often left unspoken. Through color, gesture, and narrative, Jeub transforms abstraction into a catalyst for empathy and meaningful dialogue.

Mittelstadt’s work approaches abstraction through play, movement, and expressive invention. Drawing on decades of experience across artistic mediums, he creates compositions that are whimsical, bold, and theatrically imaginative. His paintings encourage viewers to momentarily suspend reality, stepping into vibrant worlds that celebrate intuition, balance, color, and visual delight.

Together, Jeub and Mittelstadt offer a multifaceted exploration of abstract art—one that spans introspection and joy, social inquiry and visual curiosity. Spatial Recognition invites audiences to consider how abstract forms shape not only the spaces we occupy, but also the emotional and communal spaces we share.
